A Young Woman Prevails Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Rehab For Her Hazardous And Heavy Drinking, And Augments Her Self Image
Emily was a thirty-eight-year-old insurance agent who was sick of feeling depressed on a daily basis and fed up with her excessive and abusive drinking behavior. Simply put, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her irresponsible drinking, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis, and she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed.
As well as the observable alcohol-related health predicaments she now experienced, probably the worst part of her drinking routine was the unreliable and dishonest person she had become. In her heart she realized that she had been lying about her drinking behavior to her family, friends and relatives and she also knew she had been less than truthful with herself about the "positive" effects of drinking. Not only this but she rationalized gulping four or five drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing two or three the first thing in the morning so that she could cope with the "pressures" at work. Stated briefly, Emily got to a special time in her life when she comprehended that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to start the slow road to health.
One of the ways that Emily put her "plan" into operation was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved by Human Resources and by top management, she moved 300 miles away to a new part of the United States. If nothing else, this certainly made making new pals and distancing herself from her old friends much simpler. Then she phoned a healthcare practitioner in her new residence and scheduled an appointment for a thorough physical examination.
After meeting with the physician and going through a number of lab tests, it was decided that Emily had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and as a consequence, was in need of alcohol therapy and alcohol detoxification. At this time, the physician made it a point to go over the various alcoholic symptoms and the usual symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her physician also told Emily that it was discovered that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for this medical condition.
Due to her willingness to follow through with the therapy protocol, after eight weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to begin treatment on an outpatient basis. At this point, she started working at her new job and over the weeks began fortifying her body by drinking filtered water, taking vitamins, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and working out.
After roughly eight weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never went through an alcohol relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol rehab and instead started going twice per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free lifestyle, they provided her with the support she needed, and they served as a frequent reminder of the negative consequences that are linked to unhealthy and abusive drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now joyful and loaded with possibilities that she could have never hoped for or fulfilled while she was involved in abusive and hazardous drinking behavior.
