Some of these food products like yogurt have soothing effect, while others are alkaline and neutralize any acidic food products. Ideally though, there are specific gastritis foods that need to be avoided or the intake of such food products should at least be reduced. Smoked foods, preserved foods (specifically in salt), vinegar, tamarind, coffee, alcohol, soft drinks which are carbonated, hot peppers, pickled foods, foods deep fried in oil, and food with mustard would be some of the gastritis foods to avoid.
